Overview
Virtual Bouncer claims to be a spyware remover, and
it actually detects a few. Unfortunately it has a few controversial properties.
First off, it has been using activeX drive-by install procedures, which many
other spywares and adwares use to get into users' systems. Second, some versions
of Virtual Bouncer displays an EULA, giving it the right to download and install
"updates" from its servers. These could do anything. Some versions have even
done this silently without asking the user. Third, the software does not have
any documentation regarding what it detects. Fourth, when running the Virtual
Bouncer in my test lab, on a computer where Bazooka detects 61 adwares and
spywares, Virtual Bouncer detected 3 of them. Not a very convincing. And when
Virtual Bouncer actually detects something, it does not display what it finds
just asking if it should be removed.
Pest Patrol, Spybot, SpySweeper and Norton Anti-virus detect Virtual Bouncer and
classify it as adware.
